on Greater Amman Municipality Website : Neighborhood Parks and Community Facilities
Neighborhood Parks and Community Facilities are two different terms
what do we mean by those and why do we need them?
A Neighborhood Park is an open facility for community that would be in the range of 1- 2 dunums (2000 square meters/ .2 Hectares) dedicated and set for neighborhoods that have high population densities and administered by the Municipality.
A Neighborhood Park is a simple open space and I need to stress on this integral idea, it doesn't have to be big or full of " 7ajar ", also, its not fragments of a street, its a one whole area dedicated for people who can't afford the space, established in a way to be near the areas they live in so they won't need to commute, hence called neighborhood park.
now in one Dunum land area in a neighborhood, what can you put on this land when it comes to design?
Any of those;
1- sand area with playground equipment on a "level" land for [ 3-6 ] years old children
2- picnic tables and benches under a fixed tent for sun protection
3- Basketball Court
4- Soccer Court
5- multipurpose field
5- Signs
5- Jog and exercise course
6- Green space, you can put ornamental trees, grass with efficient irrigation system, plant certain types of trees; we don't have problems with soil or weather in Jordan, but think green, no need for 7ajar.
7- swings ( when was the last time you adults were on a swing?)
8- parking
if Greater Amman Municipality is thinking of pavements inside the parks, this is a personal request, pleaase don't use what you used in Rainbow street, there is something called " concrete interlock pavements " which is awesome, flat, solid, pretty and easy to clean and maintain, you can walk and run in the park, I wish I can see parks where the width is enough to take four people standing side by side. as simple as this, wide flat and green.
Now lets think of where should these Parks be at, since they are not big in size, this is what needs to be done:
1- check out the neighborhoods in Amman, concentrate on east Amman first before beautifying west Amman
I was looking up online, I got to this map and it divides Amman into 27 areas and these areas respectively into neighborhoods. ( click on each area to see the neighborhoods)
after mapping the neighborhoods, determine the most dense, the poorest and
2 - suggest several small pieces of Land that belong to the government and are not developed and are close to highly populated areas
3- within the radius of 500 m surrounding each suggested land mark out the points where there are :
A- Schools
B - Mosques / Churches
C- Community Facilities
D- Libraries
E- Clubs
and then develop an understanding for the area needs and make a design for what you can put on the land for the youth and families of this area, hence the requirements while keeping in mind safety measures and standards and lets learn from Rainbow Street Example
4- since we have the land, the area, the requirements, hence we have an initial idea of what we want to do on this plot.
another fantastic tool is wikimapia for Amman, you will find hilarious information there. but on the other hand you can add information about areas that needs help as well, you can use it to map the less fortunate areas. Amman is big and there are places I personally never been to. so people lets widen the scope and think collectively and prioritize development to infrastructure so poor people can contribute and this comes through providing support to their day to day micro-communities experience.
so, whats the difference between a neighborhood park and a community facility?
its basically the area and the purpose.
community facilities are measured in hectars, ya3ni 5 dunum w tloo3, Hussein Gardens are considered community facility, and when it comes to the purpose of these facilities, its either; family gathering areas for picnics and BBQ, athele specific areas for workout with various kinds of courts, bcycle rentals, running track, children play area, space for Landscape displays; like fountains and ponds, public theatres, cultural display.
a decent example for a communit facility is Al-Safa Park - Dubai / Community Facility
as for Greater Amman Municipality Website , I was looking for the districts and then I went to Abdali Disrtict/public parks to look up public parks and I had to wonder how come they consider " sahat Paris " a public park? its a roundabout with cars arount it right?

Science Journalism Vs Consumerism
This topic is complicated because it is increasingly affecting the development of societies and the problem is in such a way that the part that reaches the public is the "newsy" part of science, seller science that is set to take part in forming governmental policies and switching the public mind towards a direction or another for example focusing coverages on climate models or biomedical research or string theory. but there is more to it than this, if you examine the amount of pages dedicated to science in a typical newspaper, you'd be amazed that it doesn't exceed an article or two, how will a journalist in science section convey a complete research in a page to explain controversial issues that science is currently discussing and how will he manage the space and affect opinions? you'd end up saying after a reading something like "so? and? what do you want to say?? or what do you want to tell me?" simply pure sciences don't have to have a social or political reasons to exist, this is a problem in outreach when the addressed audience has not done science at college and it has been noted that a politician for example doesnt have the time to follow up beyond the first five lines a scientist starts explaining a theory, they are only interested in results when its the method is what is important to make a decision and if you examine journals that are dedicated to science, you will find that they are more and more including cover stories that are catchy and appealing and not theory-science centric that journals like National Geographic Magazine for example shifted to in order to compete on the stands to widen the base of readers which doen't suit scientists because it turned commercial.

Confused: Do i want peace? -- Part 1
you as an individual, what would you choose? how do you see it? are you truly at peace with making peace? i ask you to take a moment to think about it and think of your choice's implications, there is no right and wrong here.
speaking for myself i am so confused, i look at the international facts, agreements and history, thats not what they taught us in history class, all i read about our history even at college was bluffing the days of glory and that they are occupying our Land. i Never and i mean by never NEVER studied history from International Law point of view. hell! i didn't understand what my own rights are!!
as an Arab and Jordanian, i had the curiousity to know who among the world countries admitted to the state of Israel and who didn't?
in ANY Document i came across reading Israel history by Israelis it would start with this:
Some ask the question, "Does Israel have a right to exist?" That is not a proper question since Israel does exist, is recognized by the United Nations and many other countries, and is no more subject to being so questioned than is the United States, Japan, or any other country. Anyone who persists with the question of Israel's right to exist is one whose agenda is to eliminate Israel and its Jewish inhabitants
Israel Declared its independance on May 14, 1948 and The United States announced its recognition of the new nation only 11 minutes later. In the fall of 1948, Israel had applied for membership in the United Nations but failed to win the necessary majority in the Security Council. In February 1949, Israel renewed its application for membership in the United Nations. On March 4, 1949, the Security Council recommended to the General Assembly that it be admitted. On May 11, Israel was admitted, to become the 59th member. Between January 1, 1949 and May 11. 1949, Israel was recognised by 32 States, in addition to the 20 that had accorded it recognition prior to December 31, 1948. Today Israel has full diplomatic relations with most countries of the world, except portions of the Islamic/Arab block that continue to believe that Israel can somehow be eliminated.
Total number of countries with which Israel maintains diplomatic relations: 162. * Number of states which renewed/established diplomatic relations with Israel from the Madrid Conference (October 1991) until September 13, 1993: 32.
Number of states which renewed/established diplomatic relations with Israel since the signing of the Israel-PLO Declaration of Principles (September 13, 1993): 37.
In addition, Israel maintains:
a mission to the United Nations (New York)
a mission to the United Nations institutions in Geneva
a mission to the United Nations institutions in Paris (in the embassy)
a mission to the United Nations institutions in Vienna (in the embassy)
an ambassdor to the European Union (Brussels)
Number of diplomatic missions:
71 resident embassies
18 consulates general
5 special missions
Total: 94
* Note: Morocco, Tunisia and the Sultanate of Oman closed the Israeli offices in these countries in October 2000 and suspended relations with Israel. Niger, which renewed relations with Israel in November 1996, severed them in April 2002. (link)
As of November 2006, 34 countries do not have formal diplomatic relations with Israel:
Africa: Algeria, Chad, Comoros, Djibouti, Guinea, Libya, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Somalia, Sudan, Tunisia
(The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic of Western Sahara does not recognize Israel, but is not a member of the United Nations.)
Americas: Cuba
East Asia: (Republic of China), North Korea
South Asia: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Bhutan, Maldives
Southeast Asia: Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, (Vietnam)
Southwest Asia: Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Yemen (link)
The Republic of China (or Taiwan) does recognize Israel, but does not officially conduct relations with it (though there are "unofficial relations") due to Israel's recognition of the PRC
we are a nation of lost rights primarily due to our ignorance of our surrounding. people, take a look at this book and tell me what you think. its called Myths and Facts about the Arab Israeli Conflict
what do we have ready to say in the face of the whole world on behalf of our part of the truth?

Scheduling 1 2 3
1. Schedule only:
• Previously committed time such as meal, sleep, meetings
• Free time, recreation, leisure reading
• Socializing
• Health activities such as swimming, running, tennis
• Routine structured events such as commuting time, classes, medical appointments etc.
Fill it in with as many non-work activities as possible; do not schedule work on projects (the purpose of the unscheduled is to guarantee the legitimacy of your personal time).
2. Fill in your Unschedule with work on projects only after you have completed at least one-half hour. Think of it as a time clock that you punch in as you start work and punch out when you take credit for your progress.
3. Take credit only for periods of work that represent at least thirty minutes of uninterrupted work. Do not record the time on your Unschedule if you stop before thirty minutes are up.
4. Reward yourself with a break or a change to a more enjoyable task after each period worked.
5. Keep track of the number of quality hours worked each day and each week. Total them up. Emphasize what you did accomplish.
6. Always leave at least on full day a week for recreation and any small chores you wish to take care of. Avoid the feeling of resentment and burnout that can come when there are no holidays because of work.
7. Before deciding to go to a recreational activity or social commitment, take time out for just thirty minutes of work on your project.
8. Focus on starting. Your task is to get to the starting place on time.
9. Think small. Do not aim to finish a book, write letters, complete your income tax, or to work continiously for even four hours. Aim for thirty minutes of quality, focused work.
10. Keep starting. Finishing will take care of itself.
11. Never end down. That is, never stop work when you’re blocked or at the end of a section.

Some Thoughts on Palestine Status
following SIMPLE logic, What ANY Palestinian Government MUST do is,
RECOGNIZE PALESTINE ON THE GEOGRAPHIC MAP INTERNATIONALLY AND BY THE UNITED NATIONS INSTEAD OF HAVING PALESTINIANS THOUGHT OF AS A BUNCH OF PEOPLE STUCK IN A CITY SOMEWHERE IN ISREAL
WHEN THE UNITED NATIONS DOESNT DO ITS JOB PROPERLY, VOICE YOUR ANGER, ITS YOUR RIGHT!
BARTER WITH THE WEST, WHATEVER BUSINESS YOU HAVE WITH THE WEST, BARTER FOR A DISADVANTAGE FOR ISRAEL. ISNT THIS WHAT THEY ARE DOING?!!
NO ONE WILL COME TO YOU AND GIVE YOU RIGHT OR JUSTICE ESPECIALLY IF THEY WONT BENEFIT FROM IT. TELL ME WHAT THE ISOLATED PALESTINIANS HAVE TO OFFER TO WHO WOULD LEND A HAND?? OIL?? NOTHING BUT UNDER-PRICED BLOOD!!
personally speaking, i dont wish israeli's death,, i want a decent life for our Nation, THE BEST LIFE THAT COULD POSSIBLY BE ATTAINED AND ITS NOT IMPOSSIBLE.
